About

At Dawkes Music, we already enjoy a close relationship with Brass For Africa.

As one of the UK's frontrunners in brass and woodwind repair, we've been able to provide support and guidance for workshops, teachers and groups as part of Brass For Africa's initiative. From workshop visits to instrument donation, we've been able to see first hand what Brass For Africa does for their beneficiaries.

The values held by Brass For Africa align with those held by us here at Dawkes Music. As a company, we aim to Create, Inspire and Support musicians of all ages, abilities and walks of life. Likewise, Brass For Africa has established itself as a charity that ...

  • Creates new musicians through their education and training schemes, as well as creating awareness of important life skills.
  • Inspires a sense of community to help vulnerable children and young people to learn and grow together.
  • Supports existing and new beneficiaries in their journies as musicians and members of their communities.

Our managing director Jon and workshop manager Abi have been lucky enough to visit Kampala, Uganda, home to one of Brass For Africa's many bases of operation.

Music is the foundation but leads to so much more, cleverly merged with life skills.

Jon and Abi both saw what a positive effect Brass For Africa has had in Kampala, as well as their reach beyond. Both have a boosted passion for the work and values of Brass For Africa, and we want to continue doing our part - with your help!

We're raising funds for workshop repair materials, repair tools, consumables, band sets. To help us achieve this, we would love and apreciate any instrument and music donations.
If you have any unwanted or unused brass instruments (preferably in playing condition with a case and mouthpiece), we can donate these to Brass For Africa. Our in store workshop will overhaul and test each donated instrument before it makes its journey over to Uganda, Liberia or Rwanda!
Even if they aren't suitable for children or beginners, we'll be able to sell them on your behalf, with the proceeds going to Brass For Africa.

And if you want to do something to help raise money, let us know! Perhaps your orchestra or band would like to hold a fundraising concert - let us know, and we'll support and advertise your event to make it as successful as possible!
